Dr. Jamie Yoo made her debut at age 15 with the Seoul Symphony Orchestra performing Mercadante Flute Concerto in E minor. Since then, she has appeared as a featured soloist with the Spoleto Music Festival Orchestra and Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra in Bulgaria. As an orchestral musician, she enjoys performing both symphony and opera works. Notable ensembles of her performances include the Sarasota Music Festival Orchestra, National Repertory Orchestra, Blue Lake Music Festival Orchestra, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and Symphony Nova. Her favorite composers for symphonic works are Mahler and Beethoven. Her recent opera performance includes Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, which have become her favorites.
Having great interest in contemporary music, Dr. Yoo regularly performed at a contemporary music concert series at Brandeis University and showcased electronic music at the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival. She was also invited to the Blodgett Recital Series at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Festival performing the work of three-time Grammy nominated composer, Miguel del Aguila. Dr. Yoo is currently working on several contemporary ensemble projects and exploring collaboration with visual artists.
In hopes of breaking down barriers to classical music and to reach a wider audience, Dr. Yoo began hosting her own radio show The Classic at New York Radio Korea. She dedicated her efforts to make classical music more approachable, often highlighting classical music used in Jazz, Hip-hop, and K-pop. Dr. Yoo was recognized for her creative programming and was awarded “Program of the Year.”
Dr. Yoo is inspired by the joy and happiness that music provides and strives to be an ambassador of classical music. Through her outreach experience with the world renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, she witnessed music bring the people of Chicago together and positively impact the mood of the entire community. Dr. Yoo is committed to continuing to provide those with love for music and the arts with the opportunity to pursue their passion.
Dr. Yoo holds a BM and MM in Flute Performance at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and a DMA in Flute Performance and Literature with a minor in Music Theory from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Yoo enjoys making iced cappuccino with a double shot of espresso every morning using her favorite bean, Forty Six.
